Andromachi Gkoulia is a Marine Ecologist with a BSc in Marine Sciences and a master’s in Applied Ecology – Environmental Management and Biological Resources, specialising in Biological Oceanography and dedicated to the well-being of marine ecosystems. Early in her career, she worked as a Divemaster in ecotourism, accumulating valuable underwater experience. Later, she contributed to the Research & Development sector of the Greek aquaculture industry, concentrating on sustainability and organic practices through H2020 and state-funded programs. Before joining CMMI, Andromachi worked for the Marine Strategy Framework Directive (MSFD) program at the Fisheries Research Institute (FRI) in Kavala. Her responsibilities were centred on criteria related to biodiversity and food webs, implementing assessments for the Good Environmental Status (GES) in the North Aegean Sea region. At FRI, she established zooplankton laboratory facilities, conducted diverse oceanographic surveys, engaged in taxonomy work, prepared technical reports, and notably represented FRI in European technical groups. Additionally, she is qualified scientific diver with experience in various field projects. Andromachi now serves as an assistant scientist at CMMI, bringing her diverse experiences to contribute to marine ecology and biotechnology and work towards a sustainable future.
